Clinton Schools Bond Issue Coming Up Soon
Clinton voters go to the polls Sept. 14 to consider a $23.5 million bond issue, primarily for construction of what's called a "school within a school."
It would house Northside Elementary for grades 2-3 and Eastside Elementary for grades 4-5. The 40-year-old Northside on Old Vicksburg Road has chronic foundation woes; Eastside on Easthaven Drive would become the district's central office and Alternative School.
The new construction, if approved by voters, would be on 16th-section land on Arrow Drive between Clinton Park, built in 2005 for grades K-1, and Clinton High, which opened in 1996 for grades 10-12.
Northside would occupy the left side of the building; Eastside would be on the right. They would share common areas such as a cafeteria, gym and administrative offices.
I'm in favor. It's pricey, but so is maintenance on the existing decrepit Northside.
